Sarah
Sarah has always been popular with her classmates. She is outgoing, confident, pretty, good at lots of things, and a natural leader. She has lots of friends and loves being the centre of attention. Unfortunately she will also do anything for a laugh and is not very considerate of others feelings. She is used to getting a lot of attention so she has developed a need for it and will go to great lengths to get it even if others get hurt along the way.
Yasmine
Yasmine lives in Sarah's shadow but she doesn't mind. She gets a lot of attention through her association with Sarah and she likes how that feels. She enjoys Sarah's antics and doesn't ever question them. She thinks Sarah is the coolest and the most fun person to be friends with. She has never stopped to listen to what Sarah is actually saying or to think about Sarah's affect on others. She will do whatever it takes to be Sarah's best friend.
Mandy
Mandy has been friends with Sarah and Yasmine for a long time so she is used to their grand ways and poor treatment of others, but she is beginning to get tired of it. She is a thoughtful and sensitive girl so she sees how mean they are and she hates it when they make jokes about other people. She wishes she had the confidence to say something to Sarah but she also really likes being friends with her and doesn't want to be left out.
Kate
Kate is absolutely thrilled to be friends with Sarah and Yasmine and wants to be included in whatever they are doing. Whatever they do she will do. She doesn't have a lot of confidence in herself and secretly thinks that she gets invited to things because of her friends. She would never do anything to jeopardise that friendship because Sarah and Yasmine are the centre of her world. She doesn't even try to think for herself because they might disagree with what she came up with.
Chelsey
Chelsey is a quiet independent thinking capable young girl but she has been struggling against the power and popularity of Sarah and Yasmine for many years. They don't like Chelsey because Chelsey is different from them. She doesn't admire them and won't follow their rules. But Chelsey is afraid of their power and popularity and doesn't have the courage to actually stand up to them so she just stays as far away as she can.
Jenna
Jenna is pretty, smart, creative and energetic. She had lots of friends at her old school but she is struggling to make friends here. She is sad because she is missing her old life. She feels intimidated by Sarah and Yasmine because they are turning people against her and she doesn't know why. Sarah instinctively knows that a confident happy Jenna would be competition for the attention of her classmates and she is not going to stand for that.
Mike
Mike is a smart independent and very artistic kid. He likes spending time alone and doesn't try to make friends or fit in, but if someone wants to hang out with him, that is fine. He leads an alternative lifestyle and is quite happy with that. Mike isn't interested in being part of the status quo. When others are signing up for hockey, he might try fencing or just play his guitar. Instead of writing an essay for school, he is more likely to produce a short film or create a sculpture. He doesn't care if the teacher fails him on it, he gets satisfaction from doing things his way.
Chris
Chris is the guy that will do anything to make people laugh. He loves to be in the middle of a noisy crowd. He enjoys the thrill of a little bit of trouble now and then and never takes anything too seriously. He has a great sense of adventure and often gets in too deep before he realises he is heading for trouble. Although he is quite clever he is not a good student because he never gets around to doing his school work. He is a true and loyal friend to Josh.
Carl
Carl is happy to hang out with Chris and Josh because they are the best entertainment at school. His parents are very strict so he has to study hard and is not able to do a lot of the things the other boys do, but when he can he throws himself in the thick of things and takes risks to prove that he is still one of the guys. He is desperate to get Josh's approval.
Len
Len is sensitive, loyal and thoughtful. He hates seeing people get hurt but finds it really hard to speak up. He is a private guy and doesn't like interfering in other people's business. Although he would rather listen than talk, he is an observer and he sees everything that goes on. Len is the kind of guy you can really depend on because when it comes to his friends he will never let them down.
Josh
The kids at school think Josh is the coolest, most outrageous guy around. He has had a bit of a tough time at home lately but he tries to forget about it by getting crazy with his friends. Teachers are sometimes frustrated with Josh because he could be a good student but he just doesn't bother and instead uses his energy to create disturbances in the classroom. Sometimes his temper flares up and he cannot control it. He gets in a lot of fights because of this. He can be very unpredictable, but his friends don't mind because most of the time he is so much fun to be with.
