Humber Park School - Vice Principal

Dear Sandy and Wendy,

On behalf of the staff and students of Humber Park Elementary School, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the cast and crew who perform “Do the Right Thing” which was presented at our school earlier today.

The young performers did a wonderful job in conveying to our students their message about bullying. As well, the students were able to relate to the young actors and actresses and this made the message even more powerful. Parents who attended this performance visited my office to communicate to me their overwhelming approval. As well, teachers have expressed the power that was in the message because it was students teaching students. I would have to categorize today’s production on bullying as one of the most meaningful to students that I have seen.

May I take this opportunity to thank your sponsors for supporting this worthwhile presentation and I hope that they will continue so that other schools will benefit as well.

Thanks again and best of luck in future performances.

Hi Wendy, Sandy, and Students,

Your performance today was very moving. It was the best I have seen on the topic of bullying. I have been teaching for 32 years and your performance stirred many memories of the bullying I have seen through the years and the pain which many students go through daily. Bullying doesn't start at Junior High. The roots start far earlier. I encourage you to go into as many elementary schools as you can. It would be a great provincial project. From what I have seen, you have the right students to deliver the message. Many thanks and continued success!

Gaspereau Elementary School - Grade 4 Teacher

My name is Constant(Butch) Collins and I teach grade four at Gaspereau Elementary School. I had the pleasure of being part of the audience on May 3rd, 2006 when your troupe of wonderful young people performed a 'bully smart' play.

I have been teaching for the past 21 years. During this time I have put together several large plays and performances involving young people. Without any reservations what so ever I can tell you that I have not seen a more powerful and professional performance than the one your troupe did for us. The poise and professional attitude of the young people was heartwarming and amazing to see. They brought to life many 'real' concerns that we all have and they did it in a way that convinced me and the rest of the audience that they 'really cared'

Presentations such as this mean so much to the audience because they can see kids their age and relate to it more directly. My class spent a great deal of time after the performance talking about the issues as well as the actual acting, singing and dancing. I'm sure the affect this performance had on many of the kids will stay with them for a long time.

I would like to thank you and your group for all the hard work that must have gone into this. Be assured that it did and will continue to....MAKE A VERY POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN THE KIDS AND STAFF OF GASPEREAU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!!

Kingswood Elementary School, Hammonds Plains

We were recently very fortunate to see the performance of “Do the Right Thing” at our school. 595 students, from grades primary to six, sat spellbound for the entire 45 minute presentation. The message about “doing the right thing” is a very talented and well planned portrayal of victims, bullies and bystanders. The actors are able to share a particularly powerful message with their peers about the role of the bystander. From the youngest member of the audience to the most senior, this performance gives everyone something important to think about when they see behavior that constitutes bullying.

At Kingswood Elementary, we take a pro-active stand against bullying behavior by having a Bully SMART Student Leadership Team, trained to teach and support peers about the power of bystanders to make a positive difference against bullying. “Do the Right Thing” was a marvelous way to reinforce the work of our own team.

Without hesitation, I recommend this presentation to be given in schools at any level. I feel that watching these student actors use their exceptional singing, acting and dancing talents, to deliver this kind of message is inspiring to everyone. It clearly shows other students that “cool kids” are speaking out against bullying.

Congratulations to the adult mentors of these students. Your leadership and dedication to making schools a safer place for our youth is more than obvious through this exceptional work. I am confident that anyone who has the opportunity to see “Do the Right Thing” will be equally impressed by this performance.
