Do the Right Thing is a forty-minute performance by twelve talented elementary and junior high school students. Using drama, dance, and music, the actors will demonstrate the importance of "doing the right thing". In our production this means following one’s inner voice and learning to: think for yourself; be proud of who you are; be a good friend; respect others; stand up, speak up and take action.
The "Do the Right Thing Players" are a group of 29 young actors from the greater Halifax area who use musical theatre to inspire others to "do the right thing". Since June 2005, this all-kids traveling production about bullying and self-discovery has been showing kids how they can make a difference in their own communities.
The DTRT Players range in age from 10 to 15 years. This talented group of volunteers, with the support of Aliant, Stewart McKelvey, Buckley's Music, Colour, and O'Regan's, has performed in close to 100 schools, universities, teachers’ conferences as well as the Atlantic Fringe Festival.
Writer/Directors of DTRT: Sandy Lund is an actor, choreographer, former teacher and mother of two boys. Wendy MacGregor is a non-practising lawyer, writer, community activist and mother of three children. Both women are strong advocates for the voices of young people.
Music Director: Kirstin Howell; Choreographer: Laurie Young; Break Dance Instructor: Kirk Hall
